This outdoor garden was designed to provide a calming space for healing and reflection for both the public and the hospital patients. The garden addresses these distinctly different audiences via its bisected circle design. These unique geometries split the garden into two separate spaces; the upper garden, intended for the public and hospital visitors; and the lower garden, visible only to patients of the hospital. The upper garden is situated amidst a simple grid of crabapple trees with a view of downtown; the benches provide a generous amount of seating for hospital visitors, staff and the public. The lower garden offers patients and staff plantings of concentric bands of ornamental grasses and groundcovers, interspersed with pyramidal junipers. In this space, the city disappears and becomes distant, muffled urban ambiance.
