The Master Plan for Flathead Valley Community College (FVCC) is a conscious marriage of the place and the program - a focus on the integrity of the land, the students and community, and the risk-taking and innovative administration of FVCC. Creating a planned, native open space in FVCC’s ‘front yard’ and visually tying that in with more native open space to the northeast of the academic core - helps to retain the view of the mountains through campus and frame the campus in a strong natural setting. By keeping the academic core enclosed, the student-centered focus of FVCC becomes solidified in a built form. Parking has been added and reconfigured to again focus the campus on students, not on vehicles. By relocating parking away from buildings, large swaths of open space for gatherings and ceremonies was made available - helping to reinforce the integrity of the land.
