Bloomington Central Station is a 43.3-acre mixed-use transit oriented development community that changes how people live, work, connect, and play in the 21st century. This unique suburban community unites the best of city living and convenient transit connections in Minnesota's very first mixed-use "urban village" situated on a light-rail transit line with close connections to the Minneapolis St. Paul airport, the Mall of America and the Minnesota River Valley Wildlife Refuge.
oslund.and.assoc. partnered with EDAW to create the ideas for the site master plan and the park. The idea for the site development focused on abstracting the connections of Minnesota's agricultural landscapes to the vast network of natural corridors that weave these spaces together. These abstracted patterns developed a framework of bands of landscape and paving that created the forms and patterns of the public spaces within the larger development.
Two phases of construction
have been completed; a 17 story residential building and a 1.7 acre central
park. Both of these spaces feature the use of native plantings and finish
materials, efficient irrigation techniques, and pervious paving. These features
contributed to Reflections Condominiums receiving a LEED rating for Residential
Construction in 2007.
